What is HIPPY?

The HIPPY program in Albury-Wodonga is run by Gateway Health, a charitable, not-for-profit community health organisation providing affordable healthcare, support services, community programs, and outreach initiatives across North East Victoria and parts of southern NSW.

The Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters is a free two-year, at-home early learning and parenting program that supports parents to be their child’s first teacher. HIPPY provides parents, carers and children with a structured, education-focused program that lays the foundations for success at school.

The HIPPY approach is based on evidence that children’s earliest and most powerful learning comes from their families. This evidence shows that encouraging literacy and numeracy in the home and community during early childhood sets children up for success in learning throughout their lives.

WHO DOES HIPPY HELP?
The priority for spaces in one of the HIPPY programs is for

• Families caring for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child
• Families caring for a child from a refugee background
• Single-parent families
• Children living in out-of-home care
• Families with English as a second language
• Holders of a healthcare card
• Families that receive no income or where government payments are the main source of income

Our drop-off stations, located in:
– Dymocks Albury
– Smiggle Albury 

WHAT DONATIONS ARE NEEDED?
Preparing for school can be daunting for anyone. Donations need to be new & can range from books, to pens & pencils, backpacks, lunch boxes or even labelling materials. Anything that might take some of the stress off a young student & their family.

KEY DATES:
Donation Stations open Monday 12th August, 2024 at 12pm.
Donations collected from Donation Stations on Wednesday 18th September, 2024.
Donations delivered to HIPPY Australia by COB 20th September, 2024.
